TV Channels coming to the PS3?

We have all heard of a PSN movie service in the works.  But never anything about TV shows.  Until now.

If you watch closely on the PS Store downloadable video “What You Need” you can see an image of a listing of TV channels.   Some of the channels that can be seen are as follows:

HBO, NBC, Discovery Channel, Cartoon Network, CBS, and MTV.

There are more but they are hard to make out.

Here is the video in question.

Thanks to jordane45 from the official PS forums for the pictures.

    I definitely would download shows. I would love to have Rome sitting in my PS3. I do want the entire series on Blu too ;)

    And to commodore,
    What 90’s Nick shows did you like? I grew up in the 80’s so I am curious as to what is so good during that time period.

    I was about to say something about being super surprised HBO being listed since it’s never been available to download through the net for pay, but then i just noticed iTunes added HBO shows today. Awesome, bring it on PSN!!

    Dude how did you get into my head, remember Kids Court and Mr. Wizzard in the morning?

    @Sev1512

    The two networks you cant see well look like A&E and Showtime. Showtime and ESPN are the only two networks I can recall that have a red and white logo like that. I’m sure it’s Showtime because CBS owns Showtime (CBS is in the picture), and ESPN’s sister network ABC is not in that picture. Since HBO is also listed it makes since that Showtime would also be one of the networks.

    I bet you the partnerships acquired from the blu-ray disc association (primarily Warner, a major distributor) will help Sony obtain better rights/deals than Microsoft pulled on the Live Video Marketplace. Hopefully that starts with DRM.

  22. sev1512 Says:

    Excellent comment Devon. I think your right about the relationships gained through the BDA benefiting Sony in other ways.

    Blu Ray players are barely selling, if it wasnt for the PS3, the format probably would have died with HD-DVD.
    Well at least in US where the economy sucks and people arent buying luxuries like Blu-ray players
