You can clearly see the ‘Search’ button at the top which we have seen in the past on a PSN promotional video. At the top there is also ‘Game’ and ‘Video’ buttons to navigate between the video and game store. On the video store front page there are categories including ‘Movies’, ‘Television’, ‘Rentals’ and even ‘Anime’ plus there clearly is an arrow to scroll down for more categories. The video store will hit North America this summer around the time of E3 with the store reaching Europe and Japan at a later date.

wow only 5.99 not bad actually not bad
June 26, 2008 at 2:43 pm
This is the year they show us all what they can do. Love the layout and integration in the PS Store. How many wanna guess the vids are actually HD unlike, well, you know.
June 26, 2008 at 2:53 pm
YEah The 360 has a option of HD and SD for movies and HD movies are 4 bucks to rent and sd is 3 bucks
June 26, 2008 at 2:57 pm
I’m just wondering if for 5.99 we can keep the movie…that’s AWESOME.
June 26, 2008 at 2:57 pm
$5.99? Is this just to rent or to keep? That seems a little too cheap to own.
June 26, 2008 at 3:06 pm
I’m curious about the pricing as well!
June 26, 2008 at 3:07 pm
No you cant keep them, they are rentals.
June 26, 2008 at 3:08 pm
On XBL you can BUY tv shows but movies are rentals only.
June 26, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Woah! In-Game XMB, trophies, and now a video Store for only Summer 2008? THIS is the best time to be a Playstation 3 owner! PSL this has been confirmed through official SONY documents!

This is a .pdf document showing Sony’s Group strategy for 2008.
It clearly stats that the Video Store will start its release in the Summer of 2008.
And i saw that $5.99 price tag that just seems IMPOSSIBLE for keeps. By the way on XBL movies can only be rented. Only TV shows can be downloaded and I’m guessing the Sony is following Microsoft becuase of their success with their online community.
Note: I think that in the near future the PSN will overpass the XBL in all ways!
June 26, 2008 at 3:31 pm
nice, cant wait
June 26, 2008 at 3:47 pm
the movies will be at least 14.99 guarenteed this pic is simply a placeholder price i promise
June 26, 2008 at 3:47 pm
as far as “renting” i dont belive that will be available for awhile but i could be wrong
June 26, 2008 at 5:11 pm
I will really love this but I guess they will start with their own studio first. If you can tranfer it to the PSP it will be awesome really. It will be a plus comparing the 360 that I don’t know you can’t do it with the zune yet. More than movies I want to see TV shows and subs.
June 26, 2008 at 5:56 pm
This does look really really nice, prices seem really good. my only concern is that the HD video is 6.5GB that’s a lot and will take a long time. :\
June 26, 2008 at 6:07 pm
Finally movies to actually keep, regardless of the price it seems like a good move, besides they will most likely lower the prices to make it more appealing cause lets be honest for $12.99 i’d rather buy the DVD, still for all those couch potatoes this will be a huge hit lol
June 26, 2008 at 6:08 pm
For $6, I rather go to my local A&P and rent a DVD from the machine for only $1.07.
June 26, 2008 at 6:10 pm
Nice. I must confess that this site is really on the rise. Sorry Sev.
June 26, 2008 at 6:54 pm
Any word on the television networks partnered with Sony on this, I have just been seeing screen shots of the movie store, except for that list of networks in that PSN video Sev found.
June 26, 2008 at 6:55 pm
If you comment at me yes I know there are shows and all… but what I’m waiting more are for the shows because that what I buy in itunes.
June 26, 2008 at 7:32 pm
Looks like HD Rentals are $5.99. I believe itunes price for HD rental via Apple TV is $4.99
I wonder what the price would be for SD rental if they even providing that kind of format for rent.
I hope so too, that they let you transfer the video like iTunes to you PSP to take your movie rentals on the go if need be.
June 26, 2008 at 8:29 pm
for those you you who are curious about the pricing, its $5.99 for an HD rental (im guessing will be around 14 days or so) and $12.99 for an HD purchase to own.
What I want to see is if you can copy them to portable devices if you own them, i.e. the PSP
Downloads shouldnt take long, for whoever was concerned about that, sony must compress the downloads, and you can play in the background while downloading.
June 26, 2008 at 11:48 pm
finally.IN Not Too Long the psn will be on par with xbox live
June 27, 2008 at 12:07 am
Actually, they are offering a streamed HD version (rental not stored on your PS3 HD but viewable on both PS3 and PSP) and a $12.99 SD version that you can download and store for multiple viewings on your PS3 and/or PSP.
June 27, 2008 at 5:00 am
They’re charging money for Ghost Rider? They should be paying you to watch it. Even Eva Mendes couldn’t keep that movie from sucking.~
Still, cool implementation.
June 27, 2008 at 7:16 am
Has anyone noticed the search bar at the top?
About time!!
June 27, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Well i just looked at the picture closely and you can see that You can Purchase movies and Rent them.
Im guessing that renting the movie is $5.99 because at that price for a brand new movie for keeps sounds pretty cheap!
I hope that is the price for purchasing the movies :]. If it is I guarantee that i will purchase most my movies from the Video Store xD.
