Top 5 PSN Games You May Have Missed

Following up our Top 5 PS3 Games You May Have Missed, is our list of PSN titles, that for some reason or another, many people have missed, but really shouldn’t have.  After you’re done reading this list, make sure to check them out.

#5.) Blast Factor

blast_factor1

To sum up Blast Factor…  well…  it’s a blast.  The first dual-stick, top-down shooter to grace the PSN released to a small user base, and most likely was missed by many of you.  Its use of the SIXAXIS was brilliant at the time, being the first PSN game to take advantage of it’s motion sensing goodness.  The graphics are nothing to shout about, but the gameplay sure is, the game is fun, addictive, and was a great way to kill time between bouts of Resistance: Fall of Man, which was really all that was worth playing around the PS3 launch.  Blast Factor recently got patched to include trophy support so those of you who haven’t picked up this game have more reason to do so than ever.

#4.) Calling All Cars

callcarsshot

Another great game that suffered the pains of being released to a slow to start PS3 user-base.  Directed by David Jaffe, of God of War and Twisted Metal fame, this game is as fun as it gets.  The premise is very simple, you drive around trying to catch “robbers” and bring them to “jail”, using any means necessary (in Calling All Cars, the necessary means are missiles, magnets, and more).  This game really shines playing at home with some friends, since you have the pleasure of laughing in their face with a Nelson Muntz-esque Haw-haaaaw! when you “steal” the robber from them just as they were about to score.  If you are still on the fence about buying an annual subscription to Qore, Calling All Cars comes bundled to sweeten the deal.

#3.) Echochrome

echochrome

Many PS3 owners will be instantly turned off by Echochrome…  blindingly white screen, no explosions, or violence, just an artistic puzzler that is as elegant as it gets.  The classical background music, helps relax your mind to focus on the task at hand.  As you start to figure out how to play Echochrome correctly, twisting and turning the puzzle, to reach “echoes”, you start to appreciate it for what it is, and that is one of the finest puzzle games available on the PSN.  Yet another title that received the trophy treatment recently, Echochrome is worth picking up even without the trophy support, but ever since the patch, its value has increased exponentially.

#2.) High Velocity Bowling

hvb

Move over Wii Sports bowling, this is the closest thing you’ll get to real bowling, aside from strapping on some stinky, overly used and stretched out bowling shoes, and walking up the hardwood lanes yourself.  HVB has received a ton of  free DLC, and has plenty of premium DLC that you can customize the experience with…  it even has custom soundtrack support, so you can jam to your favorite tunes while you try to bowl a 300!

#1.) Everyday Shooter

everydayshooter_1

Jonathan Mak’s first game on the PSN (also the only one, but we sure hope he releases more) is a dual-stick, top-down shooter at heart, but is really so much more of a stimulatory experience than most others in the genre.  Beautifully designed abstract art styled stages, and geometrically shaped enemies impress, but more impressive is the guitar riffs as you shoot and destroy each enemy which seem perfectly intertwined within the game’s all-guitar soundtrack.  Each level offers a comepletely different way to chain your attacks, which in turn increases your overall score.  You use the points you have earned to purchase extras from the in-game menu which can change the whole look of the game.  Because this game offers no trophy support, this game will most likely will be passed by the many PS3 owners who picked up their console after its release.  However this game is good enough to reach our number one spot, so if you value an excellent game, then the fact it doesn’t support trophies shouldn’t steer you away from this experience.

Super Star Dust HD was great and Linger in the Shadows was pretty cool also. I highly recommend FLOWER!!! You guys should check it out

  2. Anthony Severino Says:

We loved Flower, it’s a game you CANNOT miss.

Super Stardust HD was easily the most popular PSN game.

  3. Skynetonline Says:

I love flower!! Savage moon is good too.

  4. Pixle junk monster!!! Great post guys

  5. Pixeljunk Monsters isn’t on the list? Awwww, I love that game.

  6. Sony has offended me. There is not one turtle in ANY PSN game to this day. This is racist and uncalled for. Why do they have to discriminate against turtles? Super Rub a Dub had ducks. Why can’t we get Super Rub a Turtle? How come there aren’t any turtles anywhere? Are turtles really so bad that you can’t include them in a simple $10 downloadable game? Pixel Junk Turtles, Everyday Turtle, High Velocity Turtles, Super Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Turtles? These would all be killer A++ games and we’re not seeing any of them. I’m not talking about ninja turtles, I’m talking about real turtles. They were abused in Super Mario World and never seen again. It sickens me how the media is always putting turtles on the bottom of everything. Turtles, I still have faith in you.

  7. Wow . . . I’d have a hard time narrowing it down to just five. 80% of the games on PSN are great.

A few days ago, a guy asked me to list what PSN games were good. As I started listing them, I realized that it was easier to list the games that WEREN’T good. I think I came up with 11.

  8. FLOWER. that game is beautiful. not only is it technologically marvelous, but it has the best moral. on top of how much fun it is. easily one of the best psn games ive ever played.

  9. NyghtcrawleR Says:

PJM isnt on the list because I doubt most people missed it.

Calling All Cars is a good game even though it is a bit short. Still fun for a few good rounds with some buddies at your house.

Echochrome turned me off at first as well. I didnt start to acquire a taste for it until after playing the arcade version of it in Home. I guess Home is good for something after all :P

  10. Eddie "Haskell420" Says:

I am shocked, but at what is NOT their.

    Where the hell is PAIN?

The TOP and MOST downloaded game on the PSN in 2008. Beating out Echochrome, Burnout, Socom and on and on and on.

1st off it IS THEE most original game in the HISTORY of gaming. PERIOD!! There has been NO other game like it EVER! IN THE HISTORY OF GAMING. Thats over 40 years or so. Now IF you disagree, fine, but then please NAME the game that even resembles it?

You can’t think of any, because it has NEVER BEEN DONE

It’s fun to play, it’s funny as hell, has challenging tasks, funny, sexy, kinky characters, graphics are bright and great looking, the Physics of the game is some of the best I have ever seen in a game, and it even has REAL MOVIE STARS. Hell, we got the HOFF!
David Hasselhoff signed on and now he’s in the game to launch around and beat the snot out of! And Travis and Coker said if we laughed and thought it was awesome getting Hoff, just WAIT till you see who’s next as your gonna be floored by who we get.

Echochrome is a great game as well. A little hard on the yes after a while, but the trophies especially the harder ones are hard as hell, but I’m at 40% lol

On a side note: It’s fan base and community are HIGHLY ACTIVE in shaping the game. I have been their since DAY 1 on the web site. When the creators of the game come onto the site, and respond personally to us and our ideas for new game modes, new locations we want and so muc hmore.
It really is a special place. Now I am not saying that just to say it by no means. They have asked us questions about the game, and what WE want in it! AND THEY LISTEN TO US AND DO IT! LOL
We kept telling them we wanted new areas, we got em.. We wanted new characters, we got em, we told them we wanted to be able to play our own music from our hard drive while we play, they gave that too us

  11. MakaiOokami Says:

I has all of them all :P

    I must be awesome. XD

  12. they need to bundle psn and psp games together with gave save sharing i wanan play echo chrome on my psp and ps3 when at home but i dont wanna pay or play them seperately anyone else agree

  13. I always wanted to try blast factor and everyday shooter, but I think i’ll wait and see if they are in the spring sale.

  14. I just hate how High Velocity Bowling does not allow you to backup your savegames. Unlocking those last few characters is hard… But it’s still a great game.
